Cookie Policy

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help the site work, remember preferences, and understand how the site is used. Similar technologies include local storage, session storage, and scripts that store or read information on your device.

2. How we use cookies

We use cookies to keep the site secure and reliable, remember cookie consent choices, and (where you allow it) measure how pages are used so we can improve content for our church community. We do not use cookies to sell your data or to show third-party advertising on the Bridgwater pages.

3. Types of cookies we use

Strictly necessary — required for core site functions and security, including storing your cookie consent choice.

Functional — remember preferences that improve your experience (for example simple on-site audio player state where used).

Analytics — help us understand visits and popular pages; these only run if you consent where required. Today we use Vercel Web Analytics, which is designed to measure page views in a privacy-friendly way.

4. What we use on Bridgwater pages

Hosting: the site is hosted on Vercel. Hosting and content delivery may involve strictly necessary technical cookies or similar data (for example to route traffic securely).

Consent memory: when you Accept or Deny non-essential cookies in our banner, we store that choice in your browser (local storage key bw-cookie-consent) so we do not keep asking on every visit.

Vercel Web Analytics: included to understand page visits. It is designed to work in a privacy-friendly way and is not used for advertising. Where consent is required for analytics, we respect your Deny choice for non-essential use.

YouTube videos: a few pages show videos hosted on YouTube (in its privacy-enhanced mode), such as the background film on our About page and the Alpha promo. They only load after you press Accept. Until then you see a still image or a panel with a link to watch on YouTube, and nothing is loaded from YouTube.

Google Maps: the map on our Plan your visit page is provided by Google and only loads after you press Accept. Until then you see a still image and a link to open Google Maps, and nothing is loaded from Google.

Get in Touch: the form itself does not place marketing cookies when you open the page. When you submit, your answers are sent to Microsoft Forms / Microsoft 365 for the church to reply — see our Privacy Notice.

We do not currently run Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, Hotjar, or similar advertising / behavioural tracking tools on the Bridgwater pages.

5. Managing your preferences

When you first visit, you can accept or refuse non-essential cookies through our cookie banner. Necessary cookies (including remembering that choice) are always allowed so the site can work.

You can change your mind at any time with the Manage consent tab at the bottom of every page: open it and press Accept or Deny. You can also clear site data in your browser (which removes the stored consent choice and shows the banner again), or block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some site features may not work if necessary cookies are blocked.

View preferences and full detail are also available on this Cookie Policy page (/bridgwater/cookies).

6. Third parties

Vercel hosts the site and provides Web Analytics.

Microsoft processes Get in Touch submissions when you send a form.

If you follow links to other websites (for example maps, social media, or Evangelical Alliance pages), those sites set their own cookies under their own policies. We do not control them.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available on this page, with the “Last updated” date at the top.
